Income-based program looks to loan total of $5M to boost Fayetteville small businesses

A new $5 million loan program from the Fayetteville Cumberland County Economic Development Corporation (FCEDC) aims to help low-to-moderate-income entrepreneurs and historically underfunded groups. Called the “Can Do Performance Finance Program,” it will provide 10 to 15 business owners with up to $750,000 each. The funding converts to a grant if participants create jobs, offering flexible, interest-free capital to spur growth. Austin Joseph, founder of drone-based Geranium Geospatial Solutions, sees this as an opportunity to expand technology investments and enhance operational capacity without relocating. Dr. Tamara Colvin, director of the Fayetteville-Cumberland Regional Entrepreneur & Business Hub, notes that minority, women-owned, and veteran businesses face major hurdles, including low credit scores and limited capital. FCEDC CEO Robert Van Geons says eliminating interest allows entrepreneurs the breathing room they need to ramp up. Overall, the goal is to retain local talent and strengthen Fayetteville’s economy.
